Joe Dirt to Become Cartoon

For some insane reason, Joe Dirt is being made into a cartoon by TBS.  David Spade will, of course, star in the series.  It's not he has anything better to do.  Heres what Hollywood Reporter said:
"David Spade is a hugely popular comic talent who has created a funny, yet lovable, character in 'Joe Dirt,'" said Michael Wright, executive vp of programming for TBS. "We look forward to seeing how he and his fellow writers and producers take this character in new directions as TBS continues exploring the world of primetime animation."
Since when has David Spade had talent?  All he's ever done is mooch off Chris Farley's success.  What's next TBS...a Simple Jack (from Tropic Thunder) cartoon?

Totally Off Topic: Evony Banners

This is so off topic but I just had to post this.  Chances are you've seen some of the add banners for the online game 'Evony'.  You may have also noticed the gradual changes in these particular adds.  They went from drawings of knights to pictures of breasts, and finally to half naked models.  To see the full scope the of so called 'evolution', visit the following blog:

Captain Jack Sparrow Returns

Johnny Depp & Geoffrey Rush are set to reprise their roles as Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa in the upcoming fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film.  Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will not be returning and Rob Marshall will be replacing Gore Verbinski as director.  The film's plot will be based on the book "On Stranger Tides" and will have the main characters searching for the Fountain of Youth...which was very briefly hinted at during the closing scene in the last movie.

Filming is set to begin in Hawaii sometime this summer.  The movie is scheduled to release May 20, 2011.

Howard Stern Coming Back To Regular Radio?

Shock jock Howard Stern claims that he has had several offers to return to terrestrial radio.  His contract with Sirius ends next year, so it could all just be a ploy to get more money.  Who knows.  I lost interest in listening to his show after the move to satellite.  The show was funnier when he had boundries.

Heidi Montag + Music = EPIC FAIL

Heido Montag's newly released album has sold under 1,000 copies.  No surprise there, right?  What's worse (or funnier) is that she apparently spent her entire life savings on the venture, and then told Entertainment Weekly all about it:
"She told EW, "I put every dollar I have into this. I've spent over $1 million, almost $2 million, on this album. It's cost as much or more than a Britney Spears album because I wanted it to be that quality... The songs will make an impact in pop history.""
[insert numerous blond jokes here] I find it hard to belive she put all her money into the album.  A large portion of it had to go into the massive amount of plastic surgery she had, and if I were her I'd be asking for a refund...she looks worse than before.  Not quite Bruce Jenner or Mickey Rourke bad, but still bad.

Confirmed: Marc Webb Direction Spider-Man

A press release released today confirms rumors that Mark Webb will direct the next Spider-Man movie, replacing Sam Rami who directed the previous three.  The new movie will relaunch the entire franchise.  From what the studios are saying the plot will basically be a 'coming of age' story, but with super powers.  In other words, a live-action version of the current Spider-Man cartoon.

Personally, I don't see the point of re-booting the franchise.  Sure the third movie sucked, but they could easily just ignore it and keep on going.  I can see Webb's version now:  all angst and no action...staring the cast of High School Musical

Adult Swim Gets New Anime Show

Adult Swim is adding a new show to it's Saturday night anime lineup.  The premire will be February 14, but they have not yet said what the new show is...so it's anyone's guess.  Adult Swim has been running bumps stating that they "[maybe]" aquired three news series and have also stated that they have lost the airing rights to Death Note and Blood+.  The other notable change is that they will also be airing four back-to-back episodes of Bleach, which I will assume are going to be repeats.  Here is the new schedual:

12:00 a.m. -- New Anime
12:30 to 2:00 a.m. -- 4 episodes of Bleach
02:30 a.m. -- FLCL
03:00 a.m. -- Cowboy Bebop
03:30 a.m. -- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
04:00 a.m. -- Fullmetal Alchemist
04:30 a.m. -- Big O
05:00 a.m. -- Inuyasha
05:30 a.m. -- Inuyasha

US Version of Torchwood Possibly Coming

Russell T. Davies is supposedly developing a US version of hit Doctor Who spin-off TorchwoodTorchwood follows a secret group whose job is to police aliens.  The series stars John Barrowman and Eve Myles, & Kai Owens.  In series two, Burn Gorman & Naoko Mori's characters (Owen and Tosh) were killed off, and Gareth David-Lloyd's character (Ianto) was killed during Children of Earth (series three).

Now, there have been some successful remake shows and some failures.  Coupling only lasted about four episodes even though it was almost exactly the same.  As If lasted two episodes.  For some reason The Office is wildly popular, and I can't for the life of my understand why.  Cosby was loosley based off One Foot in the Grave.  Shows like Trading Spaces (Changing Rooms), America's Got Talent (Britian's Got Talent), and Antiques Roadshow are popular as well as game shows.

So...could a Torchwood remake be popular here?  Maybe.  However, keep in mind that other sci-fi shows like Red Dwarf and Spaced never made it past the pilot episodes here, and a proposed Doctor Who revamp in the mid 90s never made it off the ground.  Torchwood already has a huge following here in the States, so Davies would need to keep it similar to the original.  We'll have to wait and see what happens.

I still don't really see what all the fuss is about.  Several of my friends saw it and said that while the visuals & special effects were stunning, the overall storyline was lacking.  I'll wait for it on BluRay, mainly because I'm due to go into labor any day now and I have no desire to tell my kid 20 years form now that she was born in a movie theater.
